When it comes to making your own Halloween costume, perhaps no costume genre has more options than an alien from outer space. Whether you want to be creepy and eccentric or weird and funny, here are some space alien costume ideas that are sure to put your next Halloween party into orbit.

For an eclectic, futuristic, and alien look, the first thing you’ll want to do is dye your hair a funky space age color. Bright green or blue will look better. There are a variety of temporary hair coloring products available to help you achieve this style without a permanent commitment. You can find temporary hair coloring sprays in most stores during the Halloween season or in costume stores throughout the year.

Another hair coloring option that has been gaining popularity is hair chalk. This temporary hair coloring comes in sticks. It is guaranteed that it will not come off your hands once it is applied to your hair. Best of all, it’s available in super vibrant colors and is shampooed.

Once you have colored your hair, you will have a variety of options for your face. You can use green face paint and apply bright green lipstick for an out of this world look. Another fun idea is to skip the face paint, find sticky jewelry, and apply it in patterns all over your face. If you want your alien to have multiple eyes, this is an easy solution too. Just buy a sheet of those gooey gooey eyes that are available at craft stores. Apply lots of eyes on the forehead (or all over the face). They’re watching you, kid.

To easily attract aliens, just go for a long-sleeved shirt and leggings in bright, bold colors. Try combining colors (like neon blue and bright green) that no normal Earthling would use together. Find a sparkly and shimmering belt to complement your space outfit.

Every alien needs a spaceship, and you can have one too. A DIY spaceship can be made out of an inflatable inner tube, paint, and tape. After inflating the inner tube, you will need to spray it with paint in the color of your choice. Alien green works, but you can also spray paint it metallic silver for a more realistic UFO look. If you want, take additional paint and decorate it with portal windows, windows, a hatch, or whatever you like.

You will need a tape of the same color that you painted your UFO. Cut and tie the ribbon around the inner tube / UFO into four separate sections: two on what will be the front and two on the back. You are going to wear this style of UFO suspenders, so measure and cut two longer pieces of ribbon for that purpose. One will go over each shoulder and tie to the UFO strap on the front and back. Once you are dressed in your attractive aliens, enter the UFO and pull the webbing straps up over each shoulder, securing the UFO around your waist. Now you are ready to take off!
