You will really enjoy making eye-catching furniture and other projects with PVC pipe. It’s a great (and addictive!) hobby. In addition, you can furnish your home on a low budget, make toys, games, items for the garden and the store, gifts and more.

While inexpensive and available at most hardware stores, finding free PVC pipe is always better.

This is how I do it…

I have two friends who are landscapers. A large part of his job involves installing underground sprinkler systems. Every time they complete a job, there are leftover pipes of various lengths and diameters. And they gladly give it to me. I also have a plumber friend who stocks PVC pipe of various lengths and diameters. About once a month he stops by for coffee and a visit, then leaves behind a treasure trove of remains.

If I’m motivated, I might as well swing by new housing subdivisions or new commercial buildings as they’re being built and pick up a bunch of pipe scrap.

Here’s the thing. These guys don’t want the extra short pieces they’ve cut off. They won’t take them to the next job because they take up space in their truck and the next customer will pay for a new pipe. If the remains are not taken, they will be taken to the landfill. So usually plumbers are happy to give them to you.

So if saving money on your PVC projects is important, you really should consider getting free pipe from…

1. Landscapers

2. Plumbing contractors

3.Construction contractors

or you can…

4. Post a message on some of the online classified ad sites that says:

“I’ll take your discarded PVC pipe for free. Call (insert your name and phone number).”
