BBQs are the “in” way to entertain this year. Today’s grills aren’t like yesterday’s, but combine the two and you have a “Lone Star” party with New England charm and Midwestern warmth, as well as the wide-open spaces and adventure of the West. In other words, you can mix and match all of the US if you want.

Hay bales are “atmosphere” and serving your best beer, whether it’s beer or Long Island iced tea in mason jars, is “cool” enough to get the party moving.

Considering the current economy and the cost of food on the market, you don’t have to skimp on flavor when counting your pennies at the checkout. While steak may be a bit pricey for your party budget, no one will miss those meaty cuts when you opt for pork ribs or brisket, burgers made in burger heaven, and “dogs” with all the trimmings, whether they’re regular , chignon-length or plumpers. You can even go with that Wisconsin brat favorite and choose from a variety of toppings, from cheese fillings to beer drizzled, etc.

If you have a large backyard, you are one step ahead. If not, there are great parks, lakes, and wooded spots that allow for grilling and fellowship. Check with local authorities first about any restrictions so your party doesn’t end early.

No grill fest is complete without the resplendent “sides.” These can be ordered as coleslaw, beans, garlic texas toast, corn on the cob, and frozen watermelon.

Seating can be bales of hay, old blankets spread out on the ground, or lawn furniture you may have. Tablecloths are fun and ideas can be found at any thrift store. By sewing colorful scarves, you can transform any folding table into a picnic delight. You can even choose an old line dance video and have guests tap their toes and show off their favorite moves. For the “children’s corral” you can choose games like toss rings or make your own. Amidst the laughter and fun, kids will never know the difference between store-bought and homemade, because the fun part is the main part.

Your invitations can be sent by landline phone or by post. In fact, creating your own invitations can also include your personal “cattle branding” as well as directions to the party farm. If you enjoy your barbecue near a body of water, the fresh fish is second to none and the award winning catches will add to the menu of frozen drinks, grilled to perfection for the main course and the colorful and varied flavors for the sides. When it comes to For desserts, fruit tarts are always a safe option, as guests can choose, or you can offer a mini ice cream parlor where basic scoops of ice cream can be garnished with everything from crushed chocolate bars to fruit slices. as seasonal sauces, such as strawberry/rhubarb.

This year, with gas prices skyrocketing, staying home is a great adventure if you take a little time and make life more special but with a few dollars to spare. It’s your choice how you entertain, but the gas grill beats the gas pumps, so enjoy. Something to think about.
