One of the most popular posts on my old blog was one about old games that are still enjoyed today. With the latest craze for netbooks, the topic of low-demand gaming is more relevant than ever. Here, I recommend 5 games that I think you should have if you have a netbook or other low-power computer. Now I feel like I should take another look at the topic and see if there have been any newer releases or take a look back to see if there were any old games that I missed last time. Here is the new list:

Little big adventure 2

Railroad Tycoon II

City sim 3000

Plants versus Zombies

Pencil physics

Triple A

Monopoly

NOLF

GTA I and II

Online games

1) Little Big Adventure 2 (AKA Relentless: Twinsen’s Adventure) (1997)

My favorite game from the last time was Little Big Adventure 2. It is getting harder and harder to run on modern machines due to incompatibility. Just Google ‘LBA2 Graphics Patch’ and you should be able to download it easily.

2) Railroad Tycoon II (1998)

If you want, you can run Tycoon III or even Railroads. If you think your computer is capable. This game allows you to create your own railway empire, through a series of campaigns, although you can also do whatever you want. The main game offers challenging scenarios and will give you hours of playtime. There is a multiplayer mode, but due to the age of the game, there will probably be no one to play with.

3) Sim City 3000 (1999)

Last time I suggested Sim City 2000, but I think modern netbooks could easily run 3000, even later versions. This game allows you to create your own city and control how it evolves and survives. There is little more I can say, if you enjoy the endless gameplay that this genre offers, this game is for you.

4) Plants vs Zombies (2009)

Almost all Popcan games should run on a netbook, they are new games, but they do not require dedicated graphics cards. Plants Vs Zombies is an original tower defense game where you build fields of plants to defend your home from wave after wave of zombie attacks. You really have to play it to see how fun and addicting this game can be. Popcan offers an online and downloadable demo on their website!

5) Crayon Physics (2009)

Buy this game for the price you want to pay by visiting this website. You will not be disappointed, this game offers an innovative and unique gaming experience. The objective of the game is to take your ball to the star on the screen by drawing lines and with the help of gravity … another game that you have to play to appreciate how much fun it can be. The only complaint I would have is that it is a bit short and you go through the levels quite quickly once you get into it.

6) TripleA – Free http://sourceforge.net/projects/triplea/files/

This is a free, solo or multiplayer JAVA computer game. It will be familiar to those who have played Risk or Axis Vs Allies, it is a turn-based strategy game that can keep you entertained for hours.

7) Monopoly (2008)

I suppose if you love the game, you will love this one and if you don’t … it doesn’t make sense for you to buy it. As the name says, it is a monopoly. Computerization means you don’t have to figure out how much money is owed, handle physical cards, or move pieces yourself, but I find this takes away a significant amount of fun that I get from the real-life counterpart.

8) Nobody lives forever / NOLF (2000)

In fact, I played NOLF 2 before playing the original NOLF and came across the former simply because it seemed to be more compatible with lower spec machines (NOLF 2 requires T&L, not many onboard cards support this). NOLF offers a unique and comical take on the first person shooter genre, with its humor but quality gameplay, this classic can’t bore you.

9) GTA I and II (1997) and (1999) – FREE from http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/

If you’re used to playing the latest GTA IV, you might be surprised to learn that this is where the game started, with a top-down viewing angle. But if you want to be able to play a variant of the game wherever you are, download this. Both games are freely available on the Rockstar Classic collection website and should have no problem running on netbooks.

10) Batches / Any Flash / Java game online

Just to name a few examples, Runescape is a great thing to run on netbooks, although it looks childish, it’s a great place that offers plenty of playtime. Search the Internet for online games and you will find plenty to do.

There were a few other games that I was considering adding, some of these were World of Goo, The Sims, and Cogs, check them out!
