There are a large number of bookmarking sites available today. I decided to be eloquent on Digg.com because Larry Brauner wanted to know what all of his Facebook friends’ favorite service was. They have a great community and this is the first site I choose to use now when I see an item on the internet that asks to “dig”.

What is Digg?

Digg is a social networking news website that gives users the ability to share content from anywhere on the web. Users can submit links to stories and news they find interesting, and vote and comment on links submitted by others.

The Digg.com home page contains most of the “Dugg” stories and there are plenty of options to filter and explore everything the site has collected in the 5 years since it started.

Why do people love Digg?

Lots of people just love little Digg with his shovel. For me, I think he connects with the outfielder in me. I love to dig. Give me a shovel, some garden soil soft and fertile in the summer heat, some plants and flowers, and I’ll be a happy little digger. Yeah, okay, I’m an idiot.

Another reason people use Digg.com is the ease of submission. That little Digg worker gets to work looking to make sure someone else hasn’t found my submission. If they did, all I have to do is click DIGG! to add my vote to the rest and add that link to my Digg.com account. If they didn’t, the process for me to be first on Digg is easy and painless. You are presented with a nice 2 step process.

Step one: A. Enter the link. b. Choose the type of link.

Second step: A. Enter a decent, eye-catching, clear and concise title. b. Add your “review” or story description to make the title even better. against Choose a theme (category) for it. This is the only area I have difficulty with. I think Digg.com needs a few more subject areas, or the ability to “tag” our posts. Maybe one day. d. Check the preview of your shipment. my. Complete the “are you human?” quiz. F. Deliver!

You’re done! You dug! You’ve made little Digg happy and you can go find more stuff for Digg.

There are some great Digg plugins available for WordPress and other blogs or some great copy and paste code to implement on almost any website. This makes it easy to integrate Digg into your online life and allows your user to easily promote your site.

Digg Traffic!

Last but not least, Digg.com brings quality traffic to your website. It takes a bit of work and maintenance to ensure that happens. You will need to participate in the Digg community and continue to submit good quality links. Don’t just submit your own website links, be sure to submit other website stories you browse or read.

Customize your Digg profile. Add an image. Add some information about yourself. Make friends on Digg.com. Add them as favourites. Encourage your coworkers or circle of friends to dig your content, and always reciprocate by digging theirs if they have any. It is highly recommended to comment on Dugg’s stories and have a good conversation about what has been submitted.

Good traffic takes time and with Digg it’s really about engagement.

So grab your shovel and start digging!
