Aside from cracked screens and frozen hard drives, battery life is one of the top items inside your Apple handheld mobile product, like an iPhone, iPod, or iPad. While there are numerous settings on your phone that will increase battery life, once the battery dies it becomes an expensive paperweight. If you’re ready to take on the challenge of changing your battery yourself, follow the steps below.

The item you will need to replace your iPhone battery includes a specially made screwdriver called a Torx screwdriver kit. Also, you will need a spare battery. Both are available at numerous online retailers. Now let’s start with the repair process.

The first step in removing an iPhone battery is to insert the pointed end of a safety pin into the small hole next to the headphone jack. This will eject the tray portion of the back plate. Next, remove the two screws on either side of the end of the base. Now you want to separate the front screen from the back panel by fitting the spudger between the glass front panel and the chrome ring. Always be careful not to tear the tapes that still connect both panels together. Then remove the wires labeled “1” and then “2” in that particular order with the spudger. The last ribbon cable can be released by lifting the white tab that holds it in place. This will allow the front and rear shells to separate completely. Next, remove the eight screws holding the motherboard. Undo the tape labeled “4,” then lift off the motherboard. A tape going to the camera will still bind it. Remove that particular tape from the camera to set the motherboard aside. Pry up the camera to allow the logic board to slide out. Be sure to remove all screws holding the logic board in before doing so. Pull the tab on the battery to remove it. Replace it with a new one, and then put all the pieces back together in the reverse order you removed them.

Does iPhone battery replacement sound too complicated? It tends to be for most beginners. Usually, many people can take the devices apart and replace the iPhone battery, but have a hard time putting it back together. Just remember that there are many small parts in your device and great care must be taken not to lose them.
