Most of the vehicles or trucks used in freight forwarding companies need more power to carry heavy loads. Most of them rely on diesel and other petroleum gases or fuels that can provide the power to meet this requirement. But with the rising price of oil on the world market and the increasing effects of global warming and greenhouse gases caused mainly by automobile emissions, the government and other private sectors have found ways to find alternative fuels. Most auto manufacturers have joined this brigade by building hybrid cars that run on alternative fuels. Most of the freight forwarding companies have also aligned with this movement and are using the latest alternative fuel technology for freight transportation systems.

Major carriers like FedEx and UPS have started their moves to not rely on petroleum fuels in their big trucks. Large trucks have higher consumption and are always used for longer trips. With the current and continuous increase in the price of oil, the use of these trucks would mean more fuel costs. With their goal of providing good and fast services at affordable prices, these companies cannot simply add the burden to their customers. If you charge your customers more than usual, you tend to lose more customers and even go out of business. So, to keep their customers and keep their business alive, these freight forwarding companies have turned to the use of alternative fuel technology for freight uses.

Today, various alternative fuel technologies are available for all types of vehicles. These include biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, hydrogen, methanol, natural gas, and propane. There are still more in development, such as biobutanol, biogas, biomass-to-liquid fuels, and Fischer-Tropsch diesel. Alternative fuel technology currently available for cargo uses are propane, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). These fuels give the same power that petroleum-derived fuels can give to drive trucks and heavy vehicles. Some FedEx and UPS trucks and carriers now run on these fuel technologies. They use alternative fuels to further reduce their fuel costs and even customer charges. Electricity is not included in your choice of fuel for use in goods transport vehicles. Bigger trucks need more power and have bigger engines that can’t run on electricity alone.

Using alternative fuel technology for freight forwarders doesn’t just help freight forwarding companies reduce their fuel costs. The use of these technologies is also their way of helping the government and other institutions in their global battle against environmental concerns such as global warming and the increase in greenhouse gases in the world.
