Cranberry Creek was founded by Marvin Belknap, who owned a sports store that rented conventional canoes to customers. Marvin went to his drawing board and designed a canoe with stability as his main concern. The creative mind of the Cranberry Canoes founder produced an innovative yet simple boat design. Common canoes are usually narrow and long, but Marvin thought that could lead to disastrous results. That is why Cranberry Canoes are shorter than usual and quite a bit wider in the center. Another unique feature of Cranberry Canoes is its hull which is pronounced and triangular, with a narrow gunwale and a flattened and widened bottom. This has been shown to provide optimal stability.
