“There is no effective drug for your type of insomnia.”

That’s what my doctor said when I came to see him about my condition.

To be more exact, I think it went something like, “There’s nothing you can do about it!”

I’m sure you can imagine how those words made me feel …

The kind of insomnia I struggled with was the kind where you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep. Actually, at first I was fine enough to fall asleep, but I would wake up between 1:00 am and 4:00 am. Sometimes I would go back to sleep. Sometimes not.

There were quite a few days where I woke up around 1:00 and couldn’t go back to sleep. I’d have a busy day ahead of me trying to function on just 2-3 hours of rest.

So imagine me, desperate, going to my doctor, only to be told that he can’t help me. Worse yet, NO ONE could do it!

Perimenopause and insomnia

But guess that? My doctor was wrong.

There were and are many things you can do to alleviate insomnia. Even the kind where you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep.

Perimenopause and insomnia go hand in hand. And that particular type of insomnia is very common for women during this time. How? Because it is a symptom of hormonal imbalance and predominance of estrogens.

Is that the type of insomnia you suffer from?

Well, I have good news for you. There are a number of supplements and essential oils that you can use that can help.

Better yet, getting to the root of the problem and balancing your hormones will go a long way in spotting some zs.

Lifestyle changes are crucial to balancing your hormones. A proper diet, exercise program, and finding ways to relieve stress will help ease the symptoms of perimenopause and insomnia. If your insomnia is due to dominance of estrogens, taking steps to flush toxins out of your home will also go a long way.

Balancing your hormones naturally takes a lot of time and effort, but the rewards are worth it. In addition to helping you rest through the night, these lifestyle changes will restore balance to your body and improve your overall health. Many women who suffer from insomnia due to a hormonal imbalance probably struggle with other symptoms as well. Getting to the root of your ailments can often have the added benefit of alleviating multiple symptoms.

Sleep is critical to your health and well-being. Managing your stress and balancing your hormones may be just what you need to get a well-deserved night’s rest.
