Too often, people get stuck because they feel like they don’t know how to ask for help. Fortunately, it is easy to ask for help. Read on for 3 simple tips you can use to get help from other people.

  1. To enlist the help of others, the first thing you should do is ASK for help. Most people are more than willing to help you, but you MUST ASK for help. You cannot start if you are not willing to ask. Swallow your pride and JUST ASK!
  2. The next thing is that you must be willing to ACCEPT the help of others. After accepting the help, you can’t worry about returning the helpful gesture. Again helpful people love help. Allow them the opportunity to dig deeper and genuinely help you. Believe me, it feels GREAT to help others, so allow others to help you.
  3. The last thing to remember is to always say THANK YOU after receiving help, so that people will want to help you the next time you need help. In fact, if you want to give a big thank you, send a personal thank you note and follow up if you can with a personal phone call at an unexpected time, or if you can’t get a phone number to call, a good personal email. Thank you is certainly an acceptable alternative.

Remember: if you don’t swallow your pride and try to “gut it” in an area where you lack the necessary skills, knowledge, or experiences, you increase your chances of failing and perhaps failing miserably. And nobody likes failure, especially if with a little help they could have succeeded. Ask and you will receive the help you need to make it great!
