Epilating Face Better Than Waxing

If you’ve ever used an epilator on your face before, you probably know that they do a better job at removing hair than waxing does. This is because they can grab even the tiniest hairs, so you don’t have to suffer that awkward growing-out stage in-between waxes.

But while most body epilators claim to give you smooth skin for up to four weeks, do facial epilators offer similar results?

To find out, we’ve asked Dr Anita Sturnham, a leading dermatologist and Braun Beauty Ambassador, to tell us everything you need to know about epilating your face.

Using an epilator on your face can be quite different to using one on other parts of your body, so you need to make sure you’re doing it safely.

First, patch test your skin before you start, so you can gauge your pain threshold and how sensitive it is to the process. Next, only use your epilator on areas that are well lubricated and don’t have hair growth too long.

Facial Epilation

You should also avoid using any oils, lotions or creams on your face when you’re epilating. This can prevent your epilator from catching the hairs and ripping them off your skin.

Once your skin is lubricated and the device has been adjusted to your pain tolerance, you’re ready to begin the procedure. Remember to move the device in a gentle circular motion while holding your skin taut.

Is Epilating Face Better Than Waxing?

After a few minutes of epilation, you’ll notice that your skin will feel soft and supple, as the hairs are pulled from the root rather than simply being scraped off. The skin will be slightly red for a few hours after the treatment, but this should fade quickly.

It is important to note that the skin on your face may be more prone to ingrown hairs when you’re epilating, so it’s best to exfoliate a few days before and after. This will help to remove the dead skin cells that can clog up the pores and create ingrown hairs.

Facial Hair Removal

The last thing you want is to develop ingrown hairs on your face, especially if you’re new to the process and don’t have much experience with it yet! It’s also not a good idea to pick at the ingrown hairs.

In fact, you should avoid touching the ingrown hairs at all, as they can get infected and become painful if you touch them. If you do encounter an ingrown hair on your face, try to apply a soothing gel or oil to soothe the skin.

Facial Depilation

Lastly, don’t forget to wash the epilator thoroughly after each use to prevent infections and ensure that you’re getting the best possible results.

What’s more, you can use an epilator to remove the peach fuzz on your forehead as well. To do this, simply trim the hairs to about 2 mm in length before you use the device.
